Mayer Hawthorne - “Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out”

I discovered this gem courtesy of Tahiti 80’s Secret Playlist. The French pop/rock band is one of my favorites (be sure to check out their tumblr) so I couldn’t have been more excited that they shared some of their favorite songs with the masses.

They describe this track from Detroit-born jack of all trades Mayer Hawthorne as “modern-retro music with a soul.” I couldn’t agree more. But just as great as its sound is its lyrics, which make you cringe thinking about someone being dumped to this song. (cross posted at Tuneage)

According to the description on Youtube, this track was released on a red, heart-shaped 7-inch single by Stones Throw. I want one!!

Charlie Wadhams - “Someone to Kiss”

I am simply smitten with this adorable track from LA-based singer/songwriter Charlie Wadhams. “Someone to Kiss” sounds like Belle & Sebastian meets Frank Sinatra, and is off his 2008 EP In A Goldmine. It’s never too early to start your Valentine’s Day mix! (cross posted at Tuneage)

Its rubs the lotion on its skin

Tuneage has been posting older tunes as of late giving me the perfect excuse to cue up one of my all-time favorites: the creeptastic "Lotion" by Greenskeepers, which homage-s the famous scene in Silence of the Lamb in which Buffalo Bill tells his captive to rub on the lotion. Disturbing? Yes. But beyond catchy.

I love love love music so it probably comes as no surprise that I love gig posters too. Nate Duval is one of my absolute favorite gig poster artists, with his intricate and whimsical designs that always perfectly capture the essence of the act. (You may recognize that Camera Obscura poster from my wall!)

Have you seen the music video for hellogoodbye's "Here (In Your Arms)"? It was playing today at Crunch and the cliche geeky summer camp theme totally cracked me up.

My longtime love for Jason Schwartzman's band Coconut Records is well documented. I simply adore their ultra California sound. It's not groundbreaking, but it's always real good. And isn't this video fun? Chloe Sevigny couldn't have been more perfect for it. All I have to say is: Jason, call me.
